Dutch Ink was Recently Featured in the Vixxen Magazine.
VIXXEN magazine was created by Tina Koulisheva in October 2009. Fed up with mainstream magazines continuously promoting the unrealistic ideals of emaciated models wearing unaffordable clothes, Tina decided to do something about it.
As an alternative girl in South Africa, she had struggled to find a publication that could support her lifestyle, in terms of music, art, fashion as well as important issues for young women.
Thus, the idea of VIXXEN was born. Armed with this concept, Tina approached photographer Christelle Duvenage and together they set off to change things for young alternative girls in South Africa.
Soon journalist Lauren Wheatley, photographer Catherine Louw and marketing manager and designer Mariska Kruger joined the team, and VIXXEN adopted Olivia Mikrut as a features writer, following her impressive contribution in the first issue.
By December 2009, Jen Roomes, (who had been the debut issue’s cover girl) was asked to join VIXXEN, due to her amazing DIY and design skills, and Lisa Nerlich was appointed beauty and fashion editor.
The team was completed in January 2010, when writer and photographer Cleo Black joined.
Together, these eight girls are out to bring you, the reader, the best of the subcultural for the modern day alternative girl. Through constant dedication and immense passion, the VIXXEN team strives to supply the reader with appealing content, such as:
NEWS
EVENT COVERAGE
MUSIC FEATURES
REVIEWS
FASHION & BEAUTY
UP AND COMING TALENT SPOTTING
not forgetting to mention a lengthly feature of each month’s cover VIXXEN, chosen by the team based on her dedication and achievements within the alternative community.
Other features in the magazine include monthly columns by Jen Roomes (Graveyard Gourmet and Krafty Kitten), Suicide Girl Diaz (A South African Suicide Girl in Israel) and Pink Spectacles (our resident geek’s monthly rants).
VIXXEN is a labour of love, released monthly on a digital platform at no cost to the reader.
The VIXXEN team hopes you enjoy reading the magazine as much as we enjoy assembling it.
